In December 1999 Eike Becker and Helge Schmidt founded Eike Becker_Architekten in Berlin. Designing and constructing an architecture of superference, they count among Europe’s most successful architects.
Based on a profound understanding of how society functions, Eike Becker_Architekten designs unique architectural solutions that work for people, organisations and communities. The Garden – Residential Building, Berlin
In Chausseestrasse, between the centre of Berlin and the borough of Wedding, there is now a mixed quarter with 16 buildings and a total of 281 apartments, an organic market, small shops and an underground garage. The up to eight-storey buildings aligned along Chausseestrasse form a four-storey gate opening up the path to the interior of the property. Two lush, green interior courtyards with private gardens create a peaceful living environment – a rarity in this inner city area.
ma|ro - Office and Commercial Buildings, Frankfurt a. M.
Located in the central business district of Frankfurt the two commercial and office buildings mark the entrance to the street “Neue Rothofstrasse”. “ma|ro” comprises 13.000 sqm for offices and luxury retail. The architectural concept is based on the idea of stacking and composing boxes of various depths and lengths, which protrude and recede rhythmically from the public space. Through this device the Neue Rothofstraße is visually widened and both buildings strongly define their corner position.
Zirkus - Residential, Office and Hotel Building, Berlin
In an expansive space between Berliner Ensemble, Schiffbauerdamm and the Spree, the building occupies a solitary and arresting position. Its shape & mass are reminiscent of an early 20th ct. Hamburg Kontorhaus. However, this large block is transformed toward a lighter, crystalline kind of architecture. 87 apartments with interiors designed in collaboration with Philippe Starck occupy about half of the approx. 33000 sqm of gross floor area. The remaining space houses offices, a hotel and stores.
