About us

In December 1999 Eike Becker and Helge Schmidt founded Eike Becker_Architekten in Berlin. Designing and constructing an architecture of superference, they count among Europe’s most successful architects.

Based on a profound understanding of how society functions, Eike Becker_Architekten designs unique architectural solutions that work for people, organisations and communities. Relying on decades of experience acquired during planning and implementing complex urban architectural projects, our enthusiasm leads us to accompany every project until every last screw has been put in its place.

Eike Becker_Architekten is a skilful and reliable partner for their clients as well as all other stakeholders. They have a thorough understanding of the multitude of interests that coincide during the development of an architectural project. Their approach as much as their reputation guarantee that the end result will be a highly functional and flexible building that is visually appealing and memorable.

Products and services

Our range of services include urban planning and design as well as architectural design services from determining the initial parameters of a project to developing a design in collaboration with clients, communities and end users through construction documentation. We specialise in offices, retail, interiors, product design, multifamily residential buildings, hotels, cultural and administrative structures, conversions and high-rises. It is typical of our work in dense urban environments that often more than one of these uses will find a home in one of our projects.

The whole is more than the sum of its parts: In order for architecture and state of the art technology to enhance each other, we put the idea of the integrated design team into action. Global experts in their area of specialisation are involved in our planning process: from the very beginning artists, engineers and designers work together towards a common vision.

Europa-Allee - High-rise office and hotel building, Frankurt a. M.

Europa-Allee - High-rise office and hotel building, Frankurt a. M.

With their design for an office building on Europa-Allee, Eike Becker_Architekten won an international competition conducted by the city of Frankfurt. The aim was to create a building that would refer both to the opposite residential tower as well as to Europa-Allee and Europapark. The high-rise office building consists of two slender discs which, above the seven-storey boulevard, take up the lively design language of the Praedium opposite. The two discs are turned out of the axis and shifted against one another. One half of the building points eastwards towards the skyscraper silhouette through the cantilever in the upper part and the other half westwards towards the Europagarten, thus connecting the west with the east. The building, which is an architectural commitment to the European idea, will become the new headquarters of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung upon completion. At the beginning of 2021, the media company and its approximately 1,000 employees will move from the Gallus to the nearby European quarter. Retail and gastronomy areas on the ground floor underline the urban character of the building and increase the quality of residence. The office tower is complemented by an eight-storey hotel complex with 348 rooms.

Spreeturm - High-rise office building, Berlin

Spreeturm - High-rise office building, Berlin

The area between Ostbahnhof, Mercedes-Benz Arena and Oberbaumbrücke is one of the fastest developing hotspots in Berlin. With a height of 70 metres, distributed over 20 floors, the Spree Tower forms the urban landmark of the area. Located on the former border strip between East and West Berlin, the site is characterised by upheavals that are reflected in the design of the building: Depending on the viewer's perspective, the net-like façade appears in different facets. At night, integrated light strips transform the high-rise office building into an architectural lighthouse. The eye-catching feature of the building is the heart-shaped entrance, which breaks open the clearly structured façade and at the same time forms the entrance to the new quarter being built on the East Side Gallery. The square floor plan with a central access core allows flexible offices of different sizes to be realised.

Theodor-Loos-Weg – Residential high-rise building, Berlin

Theodor-Loos-Weg – Residential high-rise building, Berlin

Eike Becker_Architekten won the competition of the Beamten-Wohnungs-Verein zu Berlin eG with their design for a residential tower at Theodor-Loos-Weg in Gropiusstadt. It is the first cooperative project of the office. The new building adopts the architectural formal language of the high-rise district erected in the 1970s and translates it into modern times. Gropius' original planning envisaged the integration of smaller buildings into the high-rise district. The design takes up this idea: a country house and a town house are connected to the high-rise building by a shared plinth. Here you will find a concierge service as well as areas for meetings and neighbourly activities. A generous entrance as a meeting place connects the new building ensemble and the new neighbours with the local residents. The geometric superposition of the two four-storey buildings and the 20-storey high-rise building allows the new development to be embedded harmoniously into the existing structure and skilfully conveys the height of the tower. At the same time, a forecourt oriented towards the public space is created, which corresponds with the use of the ground floor. The urban character of the design enhances the location as a whole. New neighbourly offers will make an important contribution to the positive further development of Gropiusstadt.
