About us

The only constant is change. Holger Meyer and Caspar Schmitz-Morkramer have been committed to the challenge of shaping the future since the foundation of meyerschmitzmorkramer in 2004. Since 2019, the internationally awarded company has been operating under new names.

Both holger meyer architektur, with 90 employees and offices in Frankfurt, Munich and Bucharest, and caspar.schmitzmorkramer, with 80 employees and offices in Cologne, Dusseldorf and Hamburg, create vibrant urban spaces, locations and architecture.

They help design new home and work environments, define townscapes and incorporate social change into new concepts and ventures. The projects, whether offices, hotels, listed monasteries or neighbourhoods, demonstrate how the vision of a future way of living and working can be made reality. Whether designing multi-purpose high-rise buildings or configuring urban spaces that meet people’s needs – the architects seize the new, rethink the old and redefine spaces. Spaces in which we want to live and work today and tomorrow.

New York–The Village – Düsseldorf, Germany

Awards: Iconic Awards 2015 and German Design Award 2016

New York-The Village is a new residential complex in Düsseldorf's fashionable city district Quartier Central. It has been inspired by Lower Manhattan and takes and re-interprets architectural features from this vibrant NY district such as highly structured brick façades, distinctive window arrangements, and fire escapes. The unit comprises five houses, each with their own personalities and differing in brick colour and the structuring and detailing of their façades. The industrial look of New York-The Village and its generous loft-style apartments fits perfectly with the creative atmosphere of its neighbourhood, and links a late-nineteenth century quarter with a modern-day city district.

Catholic-Social Institute Michaelsberg Abbey – Siegburg, Germany

Awards: Mipim Awards 2018 , Architecture MasterPrize 2018, Iconic Awards 2017 and German Design Award 2018.

A place of faith brought into the future with sensitivity: the listed Michaelsberg Abbey imposingly towers over Siegburg. A place for peace and devotion made to accommodate some 400 events and 21,000 visitors each year. Restoration work on the former abbey of the Archdiocese of Cologne began in 2014. It has now become a modern conference centre with 121 hotel rooms, a restaurant and conference halls. A new structure, the Forum, nestles at the imposing abbey’s feet. A minimal design that harmoniously integrates the contrasts of tradition and progress, history and the future, making them coexist at a respectful distance.

St Martin Tower – Frankfurt/M, Germany

Awards: BDA Preis 2018, Iconic Awards 2016 and German Design Award 2018

The St. Martin Tower rings in a new era in office architecture. It impresses through a puristic, graceful design and by embodying social responsibility. The ensemble comprises a tower and a U-shaped annex. The proportions and the materials used create a whole that exudes both harmony and suspense. The St. Martin Tower is not just functional – it focuses on optimal working environments and the wellbeing of users.
