About us

Stone or glass, box or blob, metal or wood, straight or round – these are not the considerations which motivate us, but rather the constant search for an answer to the questions of how people will live in the future and how we translate this creatively.

SEHW was founded in 1996 and consists of multiple internationally operating companies with about 60 employees. Hendrik Rieger and Prof. Xaver Egger are the CEOs of SEHW Architektur GmbH in Berlin.

In addition to genuine architecture services, SEHW is involved in general planning and project development. The company focusses on public buildings as well as offices, hotels and buildings for the real estate economy.

Many SEHW projects have been awarded architectural prizes during the last years. Among others, SEHW’s educational buildings received the BUILD AWARD Best Educational Facility Design – Germany in 2017. In 2018 the Shared Living-project was awarded the AIT Award in the category “future living models”.

Products and services

In addition to genuine architecture services, SEHW is involved in general planning and project development. The company focusses on public buildings as well as offices, hotels and buildings for the real estate economy. Initiating project development is a top priority for SEHW. Prof. Xaver Egger, who is teaching this subject at the Bochum University of Applied Sciences, sees the primary role of his company as capturing the whole picture of the community into which a project is to be planted. This includes a careful analysis of the demographic development of the area, the context of the surrounding buildings and the socio-demographic development of the city itself. Whether it is a residential building, ministry office or a research institute, the most important question needs answering at the very start: who will ultimately use the space? More generally, a community-oriented approach: how will we live together in the future?
The Iceberg - A new building for the Fraunhofer SIT

The base of the new building for the Fraunhofer SIT (Institute for Secure Information Technology) in Darmstadt skirts the street space while the upper floors form a block, setting a strong, widely visible accent. The typology is directly derived from the functions within. The single storey base creates a streetfront, forms the entry and presents a showcase, becoming a communications tool for collaborative partners. A set-back mechanical storey visually separates the office block from the base.

Campus of the Technical University Wildau

SEHW’s goal in the extension of the campus of Technical University Wildau is comprised of urban planning and the implementation of a functional building, a lecture hall centre and a student dorm. The central design elements are contrasts and their interaction: clearly defined functions (living and teaching) and new wide and narrow circulation axes, creating plazas and individual areas. The historical character of the hall has been maintained by creating a building within a building.

Perspectives in Augsburg

The new administrative building for Leitwerk GmbH constitutes the beginning of Innovationspark Augsburg. The building conveys strength through its ring-shaped cubature. This impression is underlined by the horizontal structure of the façade. Being detached from the ground, it opens the courtyard to an urban quarter. Food service industry and a nursery on the ground floor as well as a conference center on top of the roof ensure even more entanglement. picture by HEP
