About us

RKW Architektur + is one of the most successful architecture firms in Germany. Founded 1950 it has grown continually since then and has developed into a leading player in many areas – in the construction of office, administration or residential buildings, projects for research and development in the industry or in the fields of education as well as retail architecture. Not one architect leads RKW Architektur +, but eight – the partners, each one with his personal skills and experience. Together with around 400 employees from 25 nations, RKW offers private and public clients a comprehensive range of services in all classic service phases plus general planning, construction and quality management, BIM planning as well as project development, moderation, and consulting services. This triad of people and processes that leads to successful projects is also the motto of the office: people – process – projects.

Products and services

We are specialists for the special situation. And for the customized solution. Our project teams are therefore carefully tuned to extraordinary tasks. As creative and innovative designers, we moderate and control the entire architecture process. We accompany and guide our clients through all classic service phases and beyond. This includes in particular economic thinking in the sense of the client and the identification of alternatives and their consequences. The concentration of a wide range of specialist skills - design, moderation, planning, visualization, BIM planning, model building, construction management, construction, general planning - in our house, ensures an integral project management, which is individually and comprehensively fair to each building task.

Vision for the new Opera House in Düsseldorf

A striking appearance in a unique location – the Neue Deutsche Oper am Rhein could be the new cultural venue for the City of Düsseldorf, its citizens and visitors. An opera house that represents the state capital in a modern and cosmopolitan way by international standards; and an opera house on the Rhine for all of Düsseldorf's citizens. The design concept by RKW Architektur + aims to inspire, sketch out ideas, and point out a possible new location for the Neue Deutsche Oper am Rhein.

The CROWN, Kaufhof-Revitalization in Düsseldorf

Renewal of an urban institution: The Kaufhof building on the Berliner Allee was built in the 1950s, at that time still for the Horten Group. It was necessary to develop a future-proof concept for the prominently located building. Our design combines several horizontally arranged uses ranging from specialist retailers to restaurants, parking and a three-star city hotel.

Holiday Inn Gdansk City Center, Poland

The development of the Granary Island involves one of the most attractive building sites in Poland. Here it was necessary to redesign the entire tip of the island with due consideration of the old city structure that had been destroyed during the war. The new buildings – such as the Holiday Inn Gdansk City Center – have a geometrically linear and minimalist design contrasting with the small-scale, playful old town.
