Toranomon Hill Towers, Tokyo

The mixed-use complex is a true international and business hub featuring high-standard offices, retail space and an innovation center – a place for exchange and creation combined with high-end living and leisure offerings for an optimal work-life balance.
The integration of planted areas on different floors brings the greenery of the surrounding historic Atago Shrine gardens up and onto the buildings, reducing both the air pollution and the heat island effect thus improving the microclimate.

Lanserhof Sylt, Germany

The new Lanserhof Sylt medical resort is nestled between the dunes, on the Wadden Sea in the middle of List and yet far from any hustle. The building accommodates 68 rooms as well as a treatment and medical area. The reduced timeless design language, the use of natural materials and the flowing shapes interlace with the surroundings and create a serene and harmonious ensemble. Privacy, and deceleration are the integral soft elements of the resort’s health-promoting architecture.

Kö-Bogen Ensemble, Düsseldorf

The mixed-use ensemble’s unique design is a direct response to the surrounding urban fabric. The sloping green facades face one another in a composition inspired by Land Art and bring a vivid green into the city while demurely framing two iconic and heritage protected buildings. The new building complex oscillates in a deliberate indeterminacy between city and park. It also represents a paradigm shift: it signals a departure from the automotive era and a turn towards people-oriented planning.

Concrete Silo (Betonsilo): MIPIM Awards 2023 finalist

Best refurbished building

The Betonsilo is a prominent feature of the striking Plange Mühle industrial architecture, which dates back to 1906. Since 2001, the entire area has undergone renovations and redevelopment in phases – always in close collaboration with the heritage preservation authorities.

The abandoned piece of industrial architecture awakens to a new purpose. Once a utilitarian storage of grain, the curved shell transforms into an intimate and welcoming place, accommodating two clinics and various healthcare facilities. The arrayed compartments provide harmonious and functional working spaces as well as ambient and serene ward retreats.

Today, the Betonsilo is a vivid part of the thriving Plange Mühle campus, embodying the spirit of the present while honoring the past. Its reinvention is a testament to the potential of existing structures, its low carbon footprint - a reminder of the power of preservation.

Lanserhof Sylt: MIPIM Awards 2023 finalist

Best hospitality, tourism & leisure project

The Lanserhof Sylt resort blends harmoniously with the stunning island landscape and exudes a magical atmosphere, immediately felt by anyone who arrives. It is a sanctuary designed to harmonize with the environment, a tranquil and healthy place.

Natural materials and the minimalistic interior create a calming ambiance amidst the wilderness of the rough seaside. Wind protected loggias in the thatched roof provide a private outdoor retreat for each room. The mesmerizing, spiralled staircase in the heart of the building connects all levels and is simultaneously a piece of art to enjoy.

A plunge in the saltwater pool, a breath of fresh air, the warmth of the fireplace – the Lanserhof Sylt gathers all elements for a holistic recovery in peaceful seclusion.

DGNB Diamond for Kö-Bogen II

The Kö-Bogen II Ensemble was honoured with the DGNB Diamond award for its remarkable and ambitious architecture. This rare recognition is a complement to the DGNB Platinum certification, which the Kö-Bogen II achieved with the highest sustainability fulfillment level ever attained for a commercial building. The decision was made unanimously by the DGNB appointed design commission of three renowned architects and critics.

The mixed-use retail and office building reaches iconic quality through the experiment of its green façade. The addition of this new structure to the existing post-war architecture creates a captivating fusion of eras and uses, resulting into a place with undeniable allure. Each façade is tailored to its respective surroundings, adapting both shape and proportion, thus seamlessly blending into the urban fabric. The publicly accessible lawn on the pavilion building’s roof expands the versatile open space of the Gustaf-Gründgens-Platz.
