The new development at Schmollerplatz, Berlin is an ensemble of two identical residential buildings with wooden façades and bands of exposed concrete. Both buildings are perpendicular to each other and positioned on a ‘base’ which creates a private entrance situation and differentiates between public and private of the exterior spaces.
Despite the skipping balconies and playful window openings, the strictness of the design principle can be felt at the same time. Special features of both buildings are area efficiency, cost effectiveness and maximum flexibility. 78 residential units with ideal alignment were created to counteract the necessary housing requirement.
