About us

At Burckhardt, we live out an architectural culture that stands for responsibility and creativity. We are firm believers in a holistic approach to tasks and collaborative planning as a team. We operate a closely connected network of 400 staff, and are simultaneously rooted in the local context, with our eight offices in Germany and Switzerland.

Out of our German headquarters in Berlin, we develop the focus areas of education, research and science, life sciences and health within our broad portfolio and realize many different projects all across Germany.

Burckhardt has consistently played a pioneering role in the use of new technologies and methods over its more than 70 years of history as an architectural office. We identify and exploit new possibilities and opportunities in the ongoing digitalization of the planning and construction industry. These include BIM (Building Information Modelling), APM (Agile Project Management) and IPD (Integrated project delivery).

New Founding Buildings University of Technology Nuremberg (UTN) Nürnberg

Burckhardt is planning two new buildings for the newly founded University of Technology Nuremberg (UTN): a head-end building with a strong presence on campus as well as a high degree of transparency, and a second teaching building that leaves space for future university buildings. Together, the timber-hybrid structures will become the new home of the UTN. The heart of the building, the centrally located auditorium, puts the focus clearly on the students.

Burckhardt is planning the new flexible-use AVZ 1 building for five natural science institutes at the University of Bonn in a timber hybrid construction. It will accommodate seminar rooms, offices and open-space laboratory units with safety zones S1 and S2, plus a library and a lecture theater. The central atrium serves as a place for students to mingle and talk. BNB Silver certification is being sought for the building.

New Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics Halle (Saale)

For the Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics in Halle (Saale), Burckhardt is planning and realizing a new research building comprising three interlocking structures. Each has a main function: lab, office, clean room. They intertwine logically and are symbolically held together by the colored ceramic façade. The new building on the Weinberg Campus creates ideal conditions for new cutting-edge research with atom-scale precision.
