About us
The Federal Foundation of Baukultur is an independent entity. Its purpose is to promote Baukultur, given that it contributes significantly to the quality of life in both cities and the countryside. The Foundation’s mission is to make the built environment a shared concern, which is why it promotes high-quality building design and construction. In addition, it functions as a platform for promoting public discussion on Baukultur through events, joint projects, and publications, and for expanding and strengthening existing networks.
The Baukultur Foundation has its headquarters in Potsdam and aims both to anchor the subject of Baukultur in society at the national level and to convey its meaning and importance to the general public. The Foundation encourages an all-inclusive dialogue because not only residents but also building professionals of all disciplines are the users of buildings, streets, and squares.
The Foundation is one of the few institutions in Germany that is entitled to submit a report to the Federal Cabinet and the Federal Parliament through the relevant jurisdiction.
Every two years the Bundesstiftung Baukultur publishes the Baukultur Report, an official status report on the planning and construction in Germany focusing on a special topics - each leading into a set of recommendations for action for practitioners and policy-makers. Beginning in 2014 these topics range from cities, rural areas, built envirnonment heritage and public spaces to Baukultur of Conversion in 2022/23 and Infrastructures in 2024/25.

'well done' - successful projects in terms of costs, deadlines and quality (brochure)
‘What does it take for building projects to succeed?’ In our brochure ‘well done!’, we present projects that are successful in terms of costs, deadlines and quality. One decisive aspect is phase zero: Even before the concrete construction task is determined, an initial analysis is carried out. The analysis considers the specific conditions of a location, sharpens the wishes of client and users, takes into account the planning circumstances and thus determines all factors for the budget and timeline.
Baukultur Report 2022/23: Baukultur of Conversion
The future of building lies in a new Baukultur of Conversion. The three focus topics of the Baukultur Report 2022/23, “Conversion of City and Land”, “Buildings and Infrastructures” and “Conversion – Rethinking”, deal with a new Baukultur of Conversion on the different levels of scale. The range extends from sustained conversion of our cities and issues relating to dealing with the existing building stock through to the necessary adaptation of construction methods and processes suitable for the future.
Baukultur Report 2024/25: Infrastructures
Infrastructure is the basis for the smooth functioning of our society and fundamental to our quality of life. However, not only far too little has been undertaken to keep the buildings in good repair, but also many facilities have received far too little financial support. The Baukultur Report 2024/25 “Infrastructures” focuses on three subjects: “Infrastructure as a basis for life”, “Mobility infrastructures” and “Processes and structures”, looking at closely interwoven types of infrastructure.
